  • Crossing Hanoi
  • The Yangtze Dam Project

The Yangtze River is the third longest river in the world. It flows from glaciers in the Tibetan highlands to Shanghai on the coast of the China Sea. The people of China have settled and built homes and villages along it's shores for the last 5,000 years. It's estimated that over 500 million people live in the watershed of this river.

A dam is being built on this river and is scheduled for completion in 2009. When completed the reservoir created by this dam will create a 600km long lake, submerge many archeologically important sites, and cause the relocation of 1 million people.

The dam will also control the annual flooding of the river and create enoough hydroelectric power for about 200 million people.

On this trip we did get a chance to take a 3 day cruise up this mighty river.
For me, the highlight of this cruise was the Three Gorges site...
